Vernon’s Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre is in desperate need of volunteers for an international event that starts next week.
The FIS Nordic Cup/US SuperTour will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 and host more than 500 athletes from across North America.
The club is excited to welcome athletes back to in-person competition after two years of COVID prevented events of this size from taking place.
The club’s most recent newsletter states: “Without volunteers, it is impossible to run these events.”
Volunteering opportunities are available for both indoor and outdoor activities.
Sovereign Lake general manager Troy Hudson says “if people are unskilled, they can be trained for either stadium work or outside timing.”
There are 18 different areas requiring help. Spots are open in almost every aspect of the Nordic Cup, from the awards team to parking attendants.
Hudson adds they have about 70% of the people needed for the event so far, and he’s not “super stressed yet” but urges anyone who is interested to sign up ASAP as organizers will be contacting people this weekend to discuss their upcoming duties.
Hudson would also like to see the spot for one more first aid patroller filled.
All volunteers must register online. This will ensure there’s enough food to feed all the helpers.
Wicked Waffles and Kamui Curry food trucks will be on site to provide food services to all participants and volunteers.
Anyone who donates their time will be given a Nordic Centre day pass that can be used anytime this season
