MOSCOW: South Korea and the United States (US) plan to hold the ‘biggest’ military exercise this June in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of their alliance, South Korean media reported today, citing the defense ministry.
The exercise will showcase the military capabilities and unity of the two countries amid joint efforts to strengthen defenses to prevent North Korean missile activity in the region, Sputnik reported citing Yonhap News Agency.
The allies will deploy high-tech military equipment including unmanned assets at military exercises scheduled to be held in June, according to the ministry.
Seoul also plans to hold an Armed Forces Day celebration in September with the participation of the US Army in Korea to showcase the alliance’s ‘extraordinary’ deterrence and response capabilities to Pyongyang’s threats, the news agency reported.
In addition, in October, the two sides intend to hold a Security Consultation Meeting, which will see South Korea and the US host the first meeting with the United Nations Command to reaffirm their support for security on the Korean Peninsula.
