The Ukrainian military managed to break through the first line of defense of Russian troops in the south in places.
Konstantin Mashovets, coordinator of the Information Resistance group, spoke about this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine .
“In three directions – in Vasilyevsky, Tokmaksky and Berdyansk – advanced units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are conducting offensive operations. The pace and scope of the offensive are still minimal. The enemy is now trying to hold the supply zone and in some places the first line of defense,” he said.
Mashovets noted that our fighters had already managed to pass the first line of defense in places . At the same time, he noted that one should not confuse the first line of defense and the main one.
” If the Ukrainian troops break through the main line of defense, then of course, the pace and scope of their offensive may increase , and sharply and “suddenly” – this is obvious. But the enemy in this sense has created a layered and prepared defense in the southern operational zone,” he said.
The military expert noted that it is impossible to confidently state the quality and density of the defense, because the Ukrainian defenders have not yet reached it. At the same time, he considers it possible that the occupiers have only the first line, but behind it the rest of the “lines” exist only on paper for the sake of accountability.
However, Mashovets noted that in assessing the capabilities of the Defense Forces, one should proceed from the fact that the Russians’ main line of defense is equipped with all the necessary elements: minefields, fortifications, fortified positions for infantry and protected firing positions for weapons of destruction.
“In reality, they may not exist, that is, it may be, for example, only a component of a disinformation campaign, or Russian officials could even plunder the resources and money allocated for its equipment. But for now, let’s proceed from the fact that it is quite real and is what it should be, with all the elements. How the Armed Forces of Ukraine reach the main line of defense – then its real “quality” will become clear,” he added.
Another factor is whether the Russian command in the southern operational zone will have enough operational reserves to occupy this line of defense with specific formations, if necessary.
