In early July, Ukraine and Estonia set up a joint investigation team to investigate possible illegal actions by the Estonian NGO Slava Ukraini (Glory to Ukraine) and its Ukrainian partners.
At the end of last week, the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Special Commission of the Riigikogu, Mart Helme, was informed about this by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin.
It also follows from his response that the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have not yet filed suspicions with anyone in the framework of this investigation. The amount of possible damage has not yet been established.
In April, it became known that NPO Slava Ukraini transferred 1.5 million euros in donations collected in Estonia to a private company, IC Construction, which apparently had a fictitious owner and whose only activity was related to the Estonian NPO. The profit of the Ukrainian company for the previous year amounted to 250,000 euros.
The State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine launched a pre-trial investigation on March 24. On May 9, the Estonian prosecutor’s office also announced the opening of criminal proceedings to verify the use of funds raised by the NGO Slava Ukraini in support of Ukraine. On the same day, the Slava Ukraini Council announced that it was recalling the chairman of the NGO, Johanna-Maria Lehtme, from the council. On May 19, Lehtme, who was elected to the Riigikogu in March, resigned her mandate.
