The Ministry of National Defense of Poland on Tuesday evening confirmed that two Belarusian helicopters had violated Polish airspace.

Details: The Polish Ministry of Defense claims that the Polish airspace was violated by helicopters that carried out exercises near the border – Minsk informed Warsaw about these exercises in advance.

“The border crossing took place in the area of the city of Bialowieza at a very low altitude, which made it difficult for radar systems to detect it. Therefore, this morning, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces reported in a communiqué that Polish radar systems did not record violations of  Polish airspace ,” the agency explained.

In response to the incident, Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak ordered an increase in the number of soldiers on the border and the deployment of additional forces and assets, including combat helicopters.

Poland also informed NATO about the incident and decided to call the charge d’affaires of Belarus to the Foreign Ministry to explain the incident.

“Let us recall that Russia and Belarus have recently stepped up their hybrid actions against Poland. Considering possible further provocations, we call for the responsible dissemination and commenting of information that can be used by the Russian and Belarusian regimes,” the statement concludes.

As you know, militants of the so-called Wagner group have been in Belarus for some time, who moved there after an attempted rebellion in Russia. The Polish side has repeatedly stressed that the “Wagnerites” pose a threat to Poland, and strengthened the protection of the Belarusian-Polish border.

The other day, the Prime Minister of Poland officially  announced the movement of 100 “Wagnerites ” to the so-called Suwalski corridor – a conditional isthmus along the Polish-Lithuanian border that separates the territory of the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
