A 22-year-old police officer who died while on holiday in Corfu has been described as kind and caring with a “real zest for life”.
Hannah Byrne’s family paid tribute to her after her death on Friday.
Ms Byrne was based at Reigate as part of the neighbourhood policing team. She had joined Surrey Police last year.
Ch Supt Chris Colley, divisional commander for East Surrey, said an investigation was being led by the authorities in Greece.
A tribute from Ms Byrne’s family, issued through police, said: “Our beloved Hannah was beautiful inside and out. She was extremely kind, funny, caring and had a real zest for life.
“She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.”Ch Supt Colley said: “Hannah’s death has been a shock for everyone who knew her.”She was a bright, enthusiastic and respected officer just at the start of her career in policing and she will be sadly missed.”As a force, we are now doing everything we can to support her family and her colleagues at this extremely difficult time.”Earlier, a spokesman for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”
